The Art of Chemex

The Chemex embodies simplicity and refinement, transforming coffee brewing into an art. With its iconic design and precise technique, it delivers a cup of unparalleled clarity and balance. Each brew is a testament to the beauty of craft and flavor.

1. Heat Water

Bring about 600 grams (20 ounces) of water to a boil at a temperature between 195° and 205°F (90° and 96°C).

2. Measure & Grind

Zero out your scale and grind about 30 grams of coffee to a sand like texture. We recommend a burr grinder to ensure precise consistency.

3. Prepare

Unfold your paper filter and place it within your Chemex while ensuring that the triple-fold portion is facing the pour without obstructing it. Fully saturate the filter and warm the vessel with hot water. Discard this water through the pour spout.

4. Transfer Coffee

Place the ground coffee into the filter and gently shake the filter to level the surface of the ground coffee. This will allow the water to flow through the coffee more evenly. Once level, place the entire setup on top of a digital scale and zero out the weight.

5. Bloom

Start a timer and begin pouring 60 grams of water slowly over coffee starting from the center and moving in a steady spiral towards the edge and back again until all grounds are saturated. Allow the coffee to “bloom” for 30 to 45 seconds before moving on to additional pours. This will ensure saturation.

6. Additional Pours

After the bloom, continue pouring water in a slow, steady spiral from the center and moving to the edge and back until you reach 480 grams on the scale (including bloom water).

7. Let Drip

Allow all the water to pass through the coffee grounds. The complete brewing process should take around 5 minutes. Once brewed, remove and discard the iced filter and grounds

8. Enjoy

Savor every sip of your perfectly brewed coffee—clear, vibrant, and full of character. The Chemex doesn’t just make coffee; it elevates your moment.
